Custom Homes

You have the drawings. We build them faithfully.

New custom homes in Toronto and Etobicoke, for homeowners who have invested in good architecture and want a builder who treats it that way.

The Work

Most custom home builders can frame a house. Fewer can read a full architectural set — the wall sections, the flashing details, the millwork pages — and build what is actually on the paper. Doty was founded by an architect for exactly this: houses where the design matters, and where the distance between the drawing and the finished room is the whole job.

We take on a small number of projects each year, led personally by James Doty, with a roster of trades assembled one project at a time over more than a decade. The most recent is a custom home near High Park, designed and built under the same roof.

From Drawings to Keys
  1. Drawings review

We read the full set before we price it, and come back with questions and flags — the details that need resolving, the sequencing that will matter, the scope the drawings imply but do not say.

  2. Open-book pricing

Trades are tendered transparently. You see the numbers we see, and the estimate maps to the drawings sheet by sheet.

  3. Preconstruction

Permits, staging, and schedule set up before the first trade arrives, with your architect in the loop throughout.

  4. Construction, founder-led

James is on site through the build. One point of contact, a clean site, and a schedule you can plan a life around.

  5. Handover

The house the architect drew, delivered and documented — and a builder who answers the phone after the keys change hands.
